Project Management Tip of the Week - 22nd November 2022
Hello, Jasmine here from LVL Up Consulting with this week's project management tip of the week. And this week I'd like to share some thoughts on QUALITY versus QUANTITY when it comes to project management. So project managers, we are very driven by three things, multiple things, but three main things, and that is scope, budget, and time.
So we have fantastic schedules a lot of the time. If we are running AGILE, we have a backlog, we have a sprint, we measure our velocity, we measure our burn down. And so it can be really easy to get stuck in the trap of trying to churn out quantity of work so that you do hit timelines. It's, it's not a bad mentality, but it can often be at the sacrifice of quality.
So it is very important to think about what is your quality criteria when you are delivering an artifact. Or you're just doing project delivery in it of itself. So the things that you can think of is what is the definition of done? Do you need to consult with your sponsors and your stakeholders to get their views before you even start something?
And that will just ensure that you are delivering to the quality that everybody is expecting. So quality criteria, know your definition of done, consult with your stakeholders. And if that means taking one step back to move 10 steps forward and adjusting your schedule is totally fine then it's something that you should absolutely do because it will save rework, it will save misalignment with stakeholders and everyone will be on the same page and just loving the quality of the work that you are doing.
Cause don't forget at the end of the day, we're here to achieve outcomes. Projects are here to achieve benefits and you can only do that if you're delivering high quality work. So always remember quality over quantity. And if you do need to shift your timeline, talk to your sponsor. I'm sure that they will want a good quality output.
I'll see you next time for the project management tip of the week.
