Project Management Tip of the Week - 30th August

Hello, Jasmine here from LVL Up Consulting with this week's project management tip of the week. And this week's tip is all about having very clear delineation between what is a project and what is business as usual. And I've worked with many clients on many projects, and this seems to be a really awkward gray area for a lot of project managers and for a lot of businesses to be honest.

So what is a project? A project is a very finite scope that is delivered in a very distinct period of time. Yes, we know that projects go longer than they should a lot of the time. But there's always an end date. So it's a parcel of work delivered within, you know, a start date and a finish date.

Business as usual though, is all the work that happens after that. Or even during a project process, but it's, it's got no finite date. It can go indefinitely. And it's more of your support service management type work. And I find that when you have a project manager or project team that are, are trying to wear both hats, it's where there, you know, there's a lot of scope creep that does come into play. It's where a lot of costs can come into it. So my tip of the week is, know what your project is so have your project plan, have your scope very clear. And also on the support side, have a support agreement, have a services agreement that says, this is how we're gonna deal with, you know, BAU business as usual tasks that come in.

So be clear, you know, wear different hats, be very distinct with your stakeholders of when is it project and when is it BAU and that's my tip of the week. See you next time.
