Project Management Tip of the Week - 25th October
Hello, Jasmine here from LVL Up Consulting with this week's project management tip of the week. Last week I spoke all about Scrum and got heaps of really fantastic feedback. So I thought today I delve a little bit deeper on Kanban, which I did mention in last week's video. So, What is Kanban? This is Kanban 1 0 1.
So essentially Kanban does form part of the Agile framework and it can be used to deliver both project and business as usual work. In a nutshell though, what is Kanban? It is a way to optimize the flow of tasks that people are looking at. So it can be within a sprint or just their backlog of tasks in general, but it's meant to be optimizing the flow, making things quicker and easier.
And the way you do that in Kanban is through a visual representation. So when Kanban was first started, it was done physically. So physically placing tasks and you know, components of manufacturing actually out physically in terms columns and where do they sit? But now we can do it digitally.
And you may have seen this on a Kanban board in tools such as Jira or Trello. But we, there are lots of digital Kanban tools now. Hot tip though with Kanban so if you are using that for task management is to be very specific on what your columns are. So the traditional columns are to do, in progress, roadblocked and done or completed. But also to put a limit on how many tasks can be in each column or how many task cards, as they're often referred to. Limiting work in progress is one of the main I guess, rules of Kanban and it really will make sure you do optimize and deliver everything you need to in the defined period of time.
So that is Kanban. That is what a Kanban board looks like. I would love to hear your tips on Kanban and how you might use it in your company cause it's very popular these days. So jump in and have a look at Kanban if you haven't already. I'll see you next week for my project management tip of the week.
