Business with a Baby #1

Hi, everybody, Jasmine here from LVL Up Consulting with the next blog of Business with a Baby, which is where I share my perspectives of what it's like to be on "maternity" leave whilst also running a small business. Now I do the inverted commars' maternity leave because I'm back on the tools already.

I think I was three whole weeks of being home with baby working in the background in the business. And I'm already working with some clients again. Not by design, it just sort of happened that way. I took on a brilliant new client down in Melbourne. And I am wearing that advisory hat with our project management team. Helping set them up, get them onboarded has meant I've been effectively working again. Which is fine. Baby Van is still very young, which means he has a lot of nap times. So when he is awake, I'm with him and when he is asleep, I'm working furiously. So that's what's been happening in the last two weeks.

The other thing which has been very exciting, which you might recall is that I was nominated for an AusMumpreneur award, in fact two of them. And the one I'm really excited about is the Rising Star award, which I'm very very humbled to be nominated. But we had the judging for that which was pretty cool. It was a series of interviews with the judges. And I just wanted to share with you one of the questions that I was asked and it really made me reflect and it was why should you win the award? And why do you represent other mums who are in business?

I was reflecting on it and I thought, do you know what? We need to see more confident, strong women who are great at running businesses and also great at being mums and are comfortable with that. I think still today in my opinion, there's still a lot of mum guilt around. If you focus on your career, you feel bad you're not at home. If you're at home, you feel bad you're not focusing on your career. So I've always been a big advocate of happy mom = happy family, same with dads. If everyone is happy, then you're feeling fulfilled, then everybody benefits.

I'm very fortunate to have a really understanding husband who gets that. He knows that if my brain is stimulated, then I've got more time and more concentration with my kids. So that was my answer. I think we need to celebrate mums who are doing it all or doing one or just doing a great job, no matter what. So if you know a mom out there, who's doing an excellent job with the kids, with work, with the household, with everything make sure you acknowledge her and validate her because you know, she might be feeling some guilt.

So that's Business with the Baby this week. Van will keep growing. Hopefully my to-do list keeps shrinking and we will check in next week. See you later.
