Project Management Tip of the Week
Hello, Jasmine here from LVL Up Consulting with this week's project management tip of the week coming from LVL Up's brand new headquarters in Brisbane, which we're very excited about. The project management tip this week is all about how to motivate and drive project coordinators and project administrators .
So I have an incredible team of project coordinators that work with me and with my project managers, but it's easy to forget that it is a different role from the project manager position. It’s an all-encompassing role, as is project management a lot of the time but it can be really tricky to navigate how to get the best out of your project coordinators.
So here are my top tips!
First and foremost, share the vision and the end goal with your project. It is much easier to do sort of task driven ad hoc work when you know what the, the end goal is in mind. This is something I need to remind myself of to always be sharing the broader vision with people who may be more micro-focused.
The second tip I have is to communicate, communicate, communicate! Have standups check in. It’s not micromanagement. You really are doing your coordinator a favor by making sure that you're both aligned and that you’re swimming in the same direction and that they're doing the work that is helpful to you as the project manager.
The last tip I have is project coordinators. Often they know a lot more about your project even than a project manager. So ask for their opinion, empower them to make decisions so that you can really work as a cohesive team. I was very, very fortunate that when I first started informal project management, I was the program administrator to a very talented program manager.
Although, I had done the initiatives and projects for years working under her, such a learning experience for me. We worked really well together because we thought the same way and we were aligned at all times. So if you do those three things, you will have a project coordinator that's firing on all cylinders and is very helpful to you and your project.
As the project manager, let me know what you think and if you have any other tips.
