What I Learnt in Business Last Week - 7th June - Stepping Away

Jasmine here from LVL UP Consulting with what is usually my segment on What I Learnt in Business Last Week, which is now what I'm learning about being a business owner, who's stepping away from their business.

So my biggest learning in the last week is whatever day you set to step away (if you are indeed having a baby), be flexible with it because it could change. I was meant to have two more weeks of work, saw the doctor last week and she assured me she can only guarantee me one more week of work. So I've had to condense all of my handover, all of my transition to my team down to this final week.

So be flexible, be open to that possibility. Of course if you are going on holiday or having some planned leave that isn't a flexible date, you're all set. But if you're like me, you got to be a bit flexible.

The second thing I've learnt in the last week of preparing to step away from my business is clarity, clarity, clarity.

  • Clarity of communications - Which is something I'm very passionate about always

  • Clarity about your expectations

  • Clarity of what you expect from your team when you're not around.

So we've gone back to our LVL Up culture, our standards that we all agree on as a team. And we're trying to implement everything this week, how do we live the standards every day? This is great for the team. It sets them in the direction that is clear. And it's also good for me. It gives me great peace of mind that I know exactly what they need to do and how they need to do it. Clarity is key however not just with your team, if you're stepping away, but in everything you touch, clarity and communications are everything.

So I may or may not be here next week for another blog post, but I'll try my best.

I hope you have a fantastic week in business. See you next time.
